So the other night Pob and I diligently painted the 2 main kitchen walls and came across some hurdles. The painting areas on the two walls isnt very big and just required a lot of taping to be done due to the window, sliding door, splash backs and counters. We prepared the walls on Tuesday night and thought that since the painting area was small and we figured it’ll be one of those quick jobs and decided to go cheap and use one of those 3 pack rollers we got from bunnings so we can just throw them away after.

Now there is a reason why some items are cheap and others are more expensive and since Pob and I are “virgin” wall painters we should have stuck with the quality rollers as they would make the job 100% easier and not to mention will probably hide our lil fubar jobs! We noticed that the el cheapo rollers didnt have the same finish as the more expensive ones plus they were messier to use, we had tiny lil freckles of yellow paint on our hands and arms plus it seemed like we were using alot more paint and had to do more coats than the other.

The second hurdle we’ve come across was the “yellow butter” paint. The sample paint we purchased from bunnings, the butter colour we were after were from the bristol range but bunnings were able to mix us a sample batch using dulux. We painted part of the wall in the living room to gain a better idea of how it would look next to the colombia brown and how it would look in the day, at night time, in white light, in yellow light, etc. It was a nice soft pale and warm yellow. Pob liked it. We bought the 10l one in MagnetMart. Why there? We find it easier browsing things and finding finishing items in MagnetMart and since we were there on Monday we figured that purchasing the paint there too seemed logical. They advised they didnt stock bristol but can mix up the batch in dulux. Since the sample paint was dulux based i thought even better!! The wall came out alot brighter than the sample paint, sort of inbetween butter and yellow puff. During certain parts of the day it had a nice and happy feel to it but on other times it seemed just a tad bit too bright. Im not sure if it was because we purchased the sample and the 10l can at 2 different locations. Im not sure if the MagnetMart mixed a batch Dulux’s shade of Butter which might be brighter than Bristol’s butter shade. Maybe we didnt stir the paint long enough, maybe the light is subtly different on that side of the room, maybe it was the different roller brush affected it or it could be we just simply we fugged it.

So for now we’re back to ….

paint swatches

what to choose? what to choose?

and we’re still having so much fun with this whole thing!!! =D
